Dr. Day was born in Boston, MA and was raised in San Antonio, TX. As a senior in high school, she was thrilled to be accepted into the University of Notre Dame. While there, she played tennis for the Division I top 10 ranked Fighting Irish and also obtained leadership recognition in the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program of America. She participated in a Neonatal ICU HUGS program and sang in a summer choir. She was awarded Athletic Academic Excellence recognition and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Theology. She then returned home to Texas to work towards her dream of becoming a pediatrician, and she obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Following medical school, Dr. Day moved to Austin to complete her pediatric residency at Dell Children’s Hospital with the University of Texas Southwestern. She enjoyed the unique vibe of Austin; she was introduced to roller skating during a residency retreat, and ultimately joined a competitive roller derby team during her final year of residency. She then gained invaluable experience in underserved areas across Central Texas as a pediatrician with Dell Children’s Circle of Care/ Lonestar Circle of Care as she treated children with a variety of medical concerns. In 2016, she accepted a position at the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in South Austin. It was during this time, she met her husband, and they started their family. Dr. Day is excited to be home, and her family is excited to be settling down in San Antonio. Her hobbies include CrossFit, and her adventures now consist of quality time with her husband and three young children, swimming or exploring various places such as the Pearl, Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, and multiple parks and playgrounds. We recommend calling at least one month in advance to schedule your child's well visit, other than the specific situation of a newborn well visit (ie, the 1-2 week old visit). The purpose of a well visit is to monitor the child's growth patterns and screen for any physical exam findings, vital signs, lifestyle issues, or other information that may indicate developing health or developmental issues. Immunizations are reviewed to make sure they are up to date, and if necessary screening labwork or radiologic studies are ordered. Minor issues may be addressed at a well visit, but issues that require greater discussion require a separate visit. Routine appointments typically are scheduled for longer slots, so it may be more difficult to get them scheduled as a same day appointment if two regular slots back to back are not available. Sick Visits If your child has symptoms that you are concerned about that have been going on for fewer than two weeks, and addressing those symptoms is the main purpose for the visit, the visit is a sick visit. If you call in the morning, we will make every effort to try to get your child in for a sick visit that same day. While we strive to try to alleviate whatever discomfort your child is having, the main goal is to address the cause of the symptoms and treat that underlying cause. For example, a child may come in with fever, runny nose and congestion, and cough from a viral upper respiratory infection, and while treating her fever and cold symptoms may help her to feel better, doing so will not actually help her get better. In this particular example, since the cause of her symptoms is viral, only time and her own immune system will actually clear the infection, and sometimes blocking the symptoms may actually increase the likelihood of developing complications. Do I Need to Make a Doctor's Appointment for my Child? Note that some sick visits will be conducted outside if there is any concern on the part of the doctor that the symptoms could be consistent with an infection with airborne spread such as COVID-19.
