First Day of Classes!

From Dr. Day at Cevey Pediatrics

The first day of school, like any beginning, is exciting! It’s a fresh start with a new classroom, new friends, and sometimes new schools all together. To think about all they will learn, and all the new friends they will make is exciting. Some life long friendships start now. My son is doing his first year of Spanish Immersion and I know I will be blown away one day when he’s speaking Spanish to me some day! The first day of school also frequently causes a lot of parents to pause and realize how quickly their kids are growing up…..

My kids are 6 ½, 5, and almost 3. It surprised me the other day when my 6 year old told my almost 3 year old that she didn’t have to follow me into every single room. I laughed out loud, because he was equally velcroed to me at her age. Did he not remember? It reminded me that these memories of daily life and the way they are right now fades with time…

So I try to record the hilarious way my daughter sashays across a room, or rolls her eyes only to erupt into laughter right after, or the way she “pets” flowers and says she loves them. Or the way she says “love you much” at night. Or the way my oldest son’s dimples look when he smiles, how relaxed I feel around him, and the way his face animates when he tells a story. Or the way he used to play dinosaurs and have the baby dinosaur knock things over and say “oh it’s ok, she doesn’t know better.” The way my middle son makes up hilarious, bizarre stories, says them with a straight face, then looks at me with a side smile, or the way he nods his head to music and says “beep” when he’s done doing something. Or even how he hilariously lays flat in the bath until every single drop of water has drained. Their mispronounced words at different ages -rice krispie treats were rice Christmas trees, swords were zorns, and dogs were oogies-make me smile. The knowledge of who they are now will change in such a profound way strikes a chord in these rites of passage moments.

On behalf of Cevey Pediatrics, we wish you all a blessed school year!
